Interview with EcoPiratas @ Waking Life Festival 2023

1) What is your project about and what is the goal of your project? EcoPirates started with an anarchist and utopian ideology to transform the reality of waste management in Events and Festival (which may seem like a dirty and boring activity) into a playful universe based on the charm and mystique of pirates. For us, waste or "garbage" is something extremely valuable - "One person's trash is another person's treasure." To create authentic experiences like Waking Life, we must embrace our individual and collective and responsibilities to the environment and the future generations, ensuring a thriving planet for all species.
In addition to properly cleaning the space we share, our main goal is to awaken self-responsibility in everyone here, and for all of us to work together for a clean, healthy, and sustainable community. Utopia is possible, and our greatest contribution here is through our joy, genuine love, authenticity, and eco-pirate spirit.

2) When did EcoPiratas start in Waking Life? We started in 2018, in the second edition, we were the missing piece in the festival needs.
3) What is EcoPiratas’ unique sauce? Our main focus has been on building vibrant teams and dynamic operations. We've embraced a more horizontal approach, where everyone's voice is valued and encouraged. We believe that each personality has unique potential waiting to be discovered within our team, and we've provided the space for everyone to express themselves in their own vibrante way.
Together, we're creating a joyful and uplifting atmosphere, where every team member shines and contributes in their own uniqueness. It's all about teamwork, self-expression, and a whole lot of playful vibes but always ensuring excellency in our responsibilities and goals.
4) Something that made you really happy and satisfied about the work of the last two weeks before the festival starts. In this realm of enchantment, a tapestry of magic unfolds. We reunite with kindred souls, deepening our connections. Amidst joyful parties and meaningful interactions, we weave unique moments together. Aligned with Waking Life's vision, we find happiness and fulfillment, knowing we are an essential part of it all.
7) How is your team? Describe the vibe between your crew.We are highly dynamic, and each member of our team has the freedom to express themselves, explore, provide suggestions, and implement improvements for the smooth functioning of our system. You know...we are all pirates... having a great time while working together and resolving internal conflicts always through transparent communication, self-acceptance, non-reactivity, and without fear of expressing our emotions.
8) Do you want to share something special? ( Ex: "working parties" during night, special experiences )Avast, ye landlubbers! Ye best be listenin' up! Clean up yer mess and put it in the right bin, ye scurvy dogs! Jus' mind the signs and if ye be havin' any questions, come to us, savvy?
